Wake up the Prodigals

Praying the Word / 2020-05-06 by Martin Boardman - Prayer Mobilizer / Leave a Comment

This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:14

Our loving heavenly Father, we praise you that you are a God of grace. Your love is steadfast and sure. Your forgiveness and mercy are available to everyone who reaches out to you. Thank you for your faithfulness.

Lord, we pray for those who have walked away from the church and from you. We know your love for these prodigals is steady and constant.

Wake up these prodigal children and draw them back to your heart. In your wisdom and compassion, Lord, bring them to the end of themselves, so that they may turn their face towards you. Increase in them a hunger and thirst for the reality of a relationship with Jesus.

Where there is great hurt, bring your healing. Where there is the need to turn from poor thinking and harmful practices, bring a desire for repentance and forgiveness.

Lord God, you are a loving Father who lavishes his love upon his children. Cause prodigals to become jealous for that love so that they move towards it like a moth to a flame.

Where the image of father is a broken one, due to strained and broken relationships with earthly fathers, will you bring healing and wholeness so you can be known as Abba – Daddy.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, who leaves the 99 to rescue the one. Amen.
