“It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. 2 Samuel 6:21-22
Lord God, as we long and desire to see you move in power in our world today, we recognize that we need to posture ourselves in surrender before you.
We know that we have to get out of the way and allow you to be God. Lord, you know we can struggle to do that, so we ask for mercy and grace to help us.
Lord, we pray not just for ourselves but for our churches too, that as a church, we would be surrendered and submitted to your leading and guiding.
Lord, we don’t want to do church because that is how we have always done it. We want your Holy Spirit to lead your church. Please help us to get out of your way. So we can join you in what you are doing in the world.
Father, your servant King David, focussed upon you. He did not concern himself with what other people thought. His focus was upon worshipping you. Lord, help us to develop a similar attitude and willingness to be undignified before me so that we can be attentive to you, Lord.
Lord, will you pour out your Holy Spirit as we make space for you to work. Thank you that you have promised to empower your church and us to be your witnesses in our world.
Lord, as you move to bless, heal, bring freedom, salvation and empowerment. We acknowledge that this is all you. May you receive all the glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
