But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Malachi 3:2-3
Lord God, you are holy, and your name is holy, and all the holy ones of heaven continue to praise you day and night. We know that nothing impure can stand in your holiness.
When we look at our lives, we see, at times, how our attitude and actions don’t honour you. Those things become blockages to our relationship with you.
Thank you for the work of Jesus on the cross. In your cross, we see your love and justice meeting. Your cross deals with all our sins. Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice that brings us freedom.
Lord, sometimes we are too complacent and don’t take our brokenness and sin seriously. You went to the cross for our sin and endured the agony of crucifixion and death for my sin. Forgive me for taking your cross too lightly at times.
You, Lord, are the refiner. We thank you for the work you are doing to remove our brokenness and conform us more and more to the image of Jesus.
So we come to you as we are, confessing our sin and brokenness before you and asking you to take it.
Lord, you are the great refiner who is purifying our hearts—heating us up to remove the impurities that are present so that we may be refined and purified before you, reflecting more and more of your image in our lives.
So forgive us and purify us as we come before you today. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our saviour, Amen.
