Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
Lord Jesus Christ, you are the mighty, glorious prince of peace. The peace which you bring is not like any peace we experience for the world. It is a deeper, more precious, more profound peace that passes all understanding.
Our world needs that pace, and right now, the United States of America needs that peace. Amid the violence, destruction, hate and anger, would you manifest your peace. Lord, reveal your peace and presence to bring hope once more to scared communities.
Lord, these communities need hope that things can change. The nation, and the world, need hope that things can change. You, Lord Jesus Christ, are the only hope for the nations. Only in you do we find faith and hope to believe that things can change, that our world can be different.
Father God, you loved this world and those who live in it so much that you sent your son into the midst of the mess. Through Jesus, you to fix the brokenness and alienation between you and us, and between our neighbours and ourselves.
In you, we find the place to hope that change can happen and that all black lives matter. In you, we find the place to hope that racial prejudice will be dealt with. In you, Lord Jesus, we can hope and long for the time when we can truly love our neighbour as ourselves.
We know that you are the only answer to the troubles and violence in this world.
Lord, will you bring peace and an end to the violence so that we can focus on the deeper issues of division within the land.
Your word says, “Blessed are the peacemakers,” so we pray that you will empower your body, the church, to be peacemakers at this time. Allow your church to speak peace and hope and to step into the hard places with compassion, understanding and love.
You, Lord, are our only hope. You are the only source of true peace. So we pray, bring peace in Jesus’ name. Amen.
